Introducing The UpDayt!

I started a Substack! For those who don’t know me, I’m a journalist, academic, activist, and erstwhile podcaster, now working toward my PhD at the University of Colorado Boulder. My research and writing covers climate, ecology, politics, and, most of all, the exploitation and potential liberation of nonhuman animals. And, after thinking long and hard about the state of the Internet, I’ve decided that what the world needs is another blog.

Well, that’s not entirely true—the world doesn’t need this. But might. I’ll be using this space to share and reflect on my work, comment on noteworthy books and articles I come across, and perhaps occasionally intervene in Public Discourse, all a way to stay engaged and accountable as I work on my dissertation (more on that in a bit). I’ve had a newsletter for the last few years, but Substack feels like a more accessible, flexible, and reciprocal forum for my ramblings, and I hope some of what I share will be useful or at least interesting to other advocates, thinkers, and writers in the pro-animal and/or environmental spaces. In fact, I’d love your comments and replies if so! In my first post, I share a little more about where I’m at in my academic journey, so you can get to know me a little better before deciding whether to subscribe. But, it’s free, so I hope you do subscribe!
